CoD: Warzone at EWC 2026 Champion: G2 Esports Redeem Themselves

G2 Esports’ victory capped a remarkable turnaround for a roster that finished 17th at last year’s Esports World Cup while competing under the FiveFears banner. The breakthrough began on Day 1, when the team earned its first LAN map victory since the roster was formed.

Despite consistent online success and deep tournament runs, LAN victories had remained elusive, but G2 changed that narrative in Paris by securing four map wins throughout the event: two in the Group Stage, one in the Finals, and the final Match Point victory that delivered the championship.

Heading into the Finals, G2 was largely overlooked, with attention focused on defending champions Twisted Minds and Survival Stage winners Team Falcons. However, the roster immediately made its presence felt, opening the Finals with two third-place finishes and a second-place finish to build a strong points lead.

The turning point came in Game 4, when Anthony "Anziety" Moran delivered a crucial 2v1 clutch against Gentle Mates to secure G2’s first Finals victory and just their third LAN win. The eventual MVP consistently delivered in high-pressure moments, leading the team in key eliminations and helping complete one of Warzone’s biggest redemption stories.

Closing the Door in Game 11

G2 Esports maintained a steady presence through the middle stages of the Finals, even as other teams found success on Fortune’s Keep, a map recently added to the competitive rotation. By consistently securing kills across multiple matches, the roster built the foundation needed to reach Match Point in Game 10.

With five teams entering Game 11 on Match Point, the championship appeared destined for a dramatic conclusion. The previous two Warzone Resurgence Grand Finals at DreamHack Birmingham and DreamHack Alabama had both ended in the same game, and G2 ensured history repeated itself.

On Rebirth Island, the birthplace of Warzone Resurgence, G2 established control of the final stages and outmaneuvered the remaining competition. With only Gen.G Esports and Leviatán standing between them and the title, G2 found themselves in a 3v1 situation and closed out the final fight to lift the trophy after 11 grueling matches.

An Unbelievable Victory

"I've been playing with them for the last four years," Aarondeep "Cythe" Dhami said after the win. "Last year at EWC we almost got dead last. And this year to prove the doubters wrong, it doesn't feel real."

Ashton "Bigman" Ezard shared a similar feeling, saying the championship had yet to fully sink in. “It feels good, especially from last year […] It doesn’t feel real. It hasn’t hit me yet. It feels like a scrim.”

Club Championship points secured

With the victory, G2 Esports earned $250,000 in prize money and 1,000 Club Championship points. Anthony "Anziety" Moran was named the Sony Tournament MVP, earning an additional $25,000 for his standout performance. Reflecting on the award, Anziety summed up the moment simply: “It feels amazing, no words. I lost my voice screaming.”

T1 surged late in the Finals to claim second place, earning $150,000 and 750 Club Championship points. JD Gaming finished third after winning two matches, while defending champion Twisted Minds closed out the tournament in fourth place.
