EXPANDING GLOBAL PATHWAYS TO EWC 2027
All EWC Direct Qualifiers and Satellite LCQs will operate in line with publisher requirements and EWC competitive standards, including rulesets, anti-cheat measures, officiating and verified results. Together, the program’s two routes create a stronger global esports ecosystem, more meaningful competitions and more opportunities for players.
The value of additional qualification pathways has already been demonstrated at EWC through Last Chance Qualifiers, which quickly became an important and dramatic part of the event. João “jafonsogv” Vasconcelos progressed through the EA SPORTS FC Last Chance Qualifier before becoming EWC champion in 2024, inspiring the creation of the Jafonso Award to recognize that accomplishment.
Two more Jafonso Awards have since been earned, showcasing how new pathways can uncover championship-level talent. Team Falcons entered Overwatch 2 through the LCQ before winning the title in 2025, while M. Zubair qualified through the TEKKEN 8 LCQ and went on to win the 2026 title for AG.AL after defeating several of the game’s established stars.
Applications for both pathways are open until December 20, 2026, with proposals reviewed on a rolling basis. All Satellite LCQ events must conclude by June 1, 2027, ahead of the EWC 2027 Last Chance Qualifiers
